The Battle of Pavia comes to life at the Visconti Castle: an immersive experience between technology and history

The Visconti Castle is transformed into an immersive theater thanks to the use of artificial intelligence, augmented reality, 3D objects and interactive tablets.

The multimedia exhibition “The Battle of Pavia, February 24, 1525: the times, the places, the men” was inaugurated on Friday 14 February, at 6.00 pm, which will open to the public from Saturday 15 February until 29 December 2025.

Created on the occasion of the Five Centenary of the Battle, the exhibition offers visitors a unique immersive experience, thanks to the use of the most advanced technologies that allow them to get to know the protagonists, places and atmospheres of an event that marked the history of Europe in an engaging way.

Set up in three rooms, the exhibition skilfully blends historical content with digital innovation: the talking avatars of the emperors Charles V and Francis I, the animated reconstructions made with artificial intelligence, the 3D visualizations of period objects using interactive tablets and the virtual reality viewers offer visitors an engaging and immersive journey, bringing them directly back to the battlefield.

In addition to making use of the most modern multimedia technologies, the exhibition project presents the work of Mario Acerbi “The Siege of Pavia” (1932), coming from the artistic heritage of the Intesa Sanpaolo Group, main partner of the Cinquecentenario. The painting, the only work exhibited live, will contribute significantly to a deeper understanding and appreciation of the impact of the battle, including its echoes in Italian and European art to which a special section of the exhibition is dedicated.

The inauguration event opened with the institutional greetings of the members of the Organizing Committee and the High Coordination: Dr. Michele Lissia – Mayor of Pavia, Hon. Prof. Giulio Tremonti – President of the Promoting Committee and High Coordination, Dr. Giovanni Merlino – Vice President of the Cremona-Mantua-Pavia Chamber of Commerce, Prof. Giampaolo Azzoni – Rector’s Delegate, University of Pavia. This will be followed by speeches by Prof. Mario Rizzo – Historian and curator of the exhibition and by Representatives of ETT S.p.A. and WAY Experience, the digital and creative industries that created the exhibition.
