Thursday 6 February sold out at the Cineteatro Politeama in Pavia
With a historical and cultural in-depth meeting, embellished by the screening of the film “The Profession of Arms” by director Ermanno Olmi, the calendar of events dedicated to the five hundredth anniversary of the Battle of Pavia, an epochal event that marked the history of Europe, opened at the Cinema Politeama.
The evening began at 7:30 pm with a speech by the Hon. Prof. Giulio Tremonti on the meaning of the battle from a historical and geopolitical point of view, followed by greetings from representatives of the institutions and promoting bodies:
- Maria Cristina Barbieri, Councillor for Culture of the Municipality of Pavia
- Giovanni Merlino, Vice-President of the Cremona-Mantua-Pavia Chamber of Commerce
- Mario Valentino Rizzo, University of Pavia
- Paola Lecci, Regional Director of Southern Lombardy of Intesa Sanpaolo
At 8.15 p.m. a talk was held dedicated to the importance of the battle in European history with the contribution of Professors Luigi Casali, Marco Galandra and Mario Rizzo, experts who analyzed the impact of the battle on the political and military dynamics of the sixteenth century.
At the end of the evening, at 9.15 p.m., the audience attended the screening of Ermanno Olmi’s cinematographic masterpiece, “The Profession of Arms”, which, inspired by the life of the leader Giovanni dalle Bande Nere, projected the audience into atmospheres and characters from the time of the Battle of Pavia.
