THE BATTLE OF PAVIA AND OTHER STORIES, TWO THOUSAND YEARS OF LIFE OF A CAPITAL
Screening of the documentary “The Battle of Pavia” narrated by Toni Servillo, the first episode of the series “The Battle of Pavia and other stories. Two thousand years of life of a capital”, produced by 3D Produzioni with subject and screenplay by Didi Gnocchi and Arianna Marelli, directed by Valeria Parisi.
The screening will be preceded by a short presentation.
500 years after the Battle of Pavia, Toni Servillo recounts an event that marked European politics and that still lives on thanks to extraordinary works of art, such as the series of seven tapestries preserved at the Capodimonte Museum in Naples.
The documentary “The Battle of Pavia” presents an unprecedented point of view, that of two descendants of those who fought on opposite sides in those days of February 1525: the Spanish knight Alonso Pita da Veiga enlisted in the imperial army of Charles V and the French Étienne Cortoys d’Arcollières, bodyguard of King Francis I. But this story is also an opportunity for a reflection on contemporary wars and on how little sieges and their representation have changed in this half millennium.
The three-part series “The Battle of Pavia and other stories. Two thousand years of life of a capital”, with the extraordinary participation of Toni Servillo and the presence of Pietro De Nova, is produced by 3D Produzioni with the contribution of the PR FESR Lombardia 2021-2027 – Bando “Lombardia per il cinema” (Coesione Italia 21-27 – Co-financed by the European Union – Italian Republic – Lombardy Region) and the support of Associazione Chiamale Storie, with the patronage and collaboration of the Municipality of Pavia – Department of Cultural Policies and the collaboration of Sky Arte and Histoire.
Special thanks to the Banca del Monte Lombardia Foundation and the Pasquinelli Foundation.
On February 24, 2025, the day of the anniversary, the episode “The Battle of Pavia” aired both on Sky Arte and on the French channel Histoire.
